Prevention, emergency support and investigation

A client preparing for risk is in a different position from a fire department managing an incident or an insurer examining what happened afterwards. CSSA gives each requirement its own defined scope.

01

Fire Risk Assessments

Visual, solar-specific assessment of observable conditions that may contribute to ignition, fire spread, restricted access or increased loss severity.

02

Emergency PV Technical Response

Urgent specialist assistance for incident commanders, owners and responsible parties when damaged PV equipment creates continuing electrical questions.

Experience at the point of consequence

Requested on site alongside a fire department

CSSA leadership has attended a major rooftop PV fire after being asked to provide specialist solar knowledge alongside the responding fire department.

The team arrived at approximately 2:30 a.m. The immediate priority was to assess the surviving installation and support appropriate control of affected PV circuits before sunrise introduced renewed generation from daylight-exposed modules.

After the immediate conditions were controlled, specialist PV knowledge helped the fire department examine the installation, consider potential contributing factors and identify lessons for future prevention.

Important: switching off an inverter or initiating rapid shutdown does not necessarily remove every electrical hazard within a PV array. The actual system design, damage, access and authority at the scene must be assessed.
A disciplined scope

Technical support without blurred responsibilities

CSSA works within the incident command structure and the agreed technical scope. Our role is solar-specific support—not firefighting and not an automatic substitute for licensed electrical, structural or certified origin-and-cause professionals.

Observable facts

Record what can be seen, located, photographed and supported by available documents.

PV context

Explain system components, DC pathways, shutdown features and solar-specific hazards.

Escalation

Identify matters requiring licensed electrical testing, engineering or forensic examination.

Prevention

Translate lessons into practical inspection, maintenance and documentation recommendations.

Questions clients ask

PV fire services FAQs

Does CSSA provide firefighting services?

No. Fire suppression and scene command remain with the fire department and relevant authorities. CSSA provides specialist photovoltaic technical support when access is authorized and conditions permit.

Can CSSA determine the cause of a PV fire?

CSSA can document the PV installation, provide technical observations and assist an appointed investigation. A formal origin-and-cause conclusion may require appropriately qualified fire investigators, electrical specialists, engineers or laboratory analysis.

Can CSSA assess a site before a fire occurs?

Yes. The preventive service records observable fire-risk conditions and recommends corrective escalation. It is not a guarantee that a fire cannot occur.

Is emergency attendance available nationwide?

Capability depends on location, access, travel, incident command requirements and specialist availability. Contact CSSA immediately so the circumstances can be assessed.

Will CSSA reports support an insurance claim?

Contemporaneous photographs and maintenance records can provide useful evidence, but insurers and other decision-makers determine coverage, causation and claim outcomes.
